Application Bulletin QV02
Quadro Vac

CONVEYING AMMONIUM OXALATE POWDER

Background / Requirement

The infeed product was a fine white powder with agglomerated lumps. The lumps varied in size from 1/2” in diameter down to a very fine powder. The customer required 100% of the product to be milled down to a particle size of 325 US Standard Mesh (44 micron) or less, and then conveyed by vacuum to the next process. The vacuum was to assist in eliminating any fine dust discharged from the mill. The required capacity rate for both the mill and the vacuum conveyor was 20 kg/hr.

Quadro Vac Performance

The product was choke fed into the infeed chute of the Comil® and discharged directly into a 1 1/2” line connected to the Quadro Vac inlet. The introduction of the Quadro Vac into the Comil set-up produced excellent results. The vacuum set-up dramatically reduced bridging of the product in the Comil inlet and eliminated all fine dust created at the discharge outlet. To eliminate dust generation at the inlet, the product could be fed into the Comil® using a pick-up wand.

Summary

The application of a Model 820 Quadro Vac in conjunction with a Quadro Comil produced excellent results in the milling and conveying of a fine, agglomerated powder, while exceeding the customer’s capacity requirements. The introduction of a vacuum eliminated bridging and subsequent downtime of the Comil and resulted in a clean, dust-free environment.
