ASSISTING SLICERS AND DICERS IN RELISH MANUFACTURING

Background/Requirement

The Comil is often utilized in the Food Industry to pre-break products to a size suitable for feeding various slicers and dicers.

One specific example of this application occurs in the manufacture of relish. The brine soaked cucumbers (or pickles) can be up to six inches long and one and one half inches in diameter. These pickles are often too large for the infeed of the chopper/slicer and downtime due to bridging occurs. A large relish manufacturer approached Quadro with an application to pre-break these pickles to one half size without causing crushing or cell damage.

Comil Performance The Comil was able to accept the entire feed of product (before two choppers) at a rate of 25,000 pounds per hour. The resultant product was pre-broken to an ideal size with minimal cell damage. Summary Bridging and subsequent downtime of the chopper/cutters has been eliminated. The Comil’s low RPM gentle approach to size reduction and high capacities has made it an integral part of this customer’s process.
